Thanks for the comments. The scenery can be quite surreal. Kathe, I think what happens is that the flow pattern from the spring changes and a tree that was fine is no longer safe. There was major earthquake in the area not that long ago that resulted in the death of a lot of trees. I have a photo of that somewhere. I should post it.
